Power stakeholders to gather at business forum Sept. 9-10

The Powertech 2009 Business Forum (Sept. 9-10) and PowerTrends 2009 international exhibition (Sept. 9-11) will be held at the World Trade Center Metro Manila. The business forum and exhibit gather C-level speakers and presenters from government and private sectors responsible for various renewable clean and green energy policies and projects in the Philippines.

Attending the events are project proponents, international funders, investors in clean technology, service providers (architects, engineers, lawyers, accountants, and consultants), and technology and equipment suppliers.

The events are organized in cooperation with the Department of Energy and the National Power Corporation by Leverage International (Consultants) Inc. Interested parties may contact the PowerTrends 2009 secretariat at leverage@leverageinternational.com.

The Powertech forum and PowerTrends exhibition are the supporting events for the ministerial conference of the United Nations Industrial Development on "Managing the Transition

to Resource-Efficient and Low-Carbon Industries in Asia."

Vice President Noli de Castro has been invited to open the exhibition, PowerTrends 2009. Energy Secretary Angelo T. Reyes is the keynote speaker of the forum.

Confirmed speakers are: Session 1 - Policy, Regulatory Issues and Incentives - Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and Trade Undersecretary Elmer Hernandez. Dr. Francisco Viray, Trans-Asia President and former Energy Secretary. is moderator.

Session 2 - Economics and Challenges of Renewable and Clean Energy - Jose P. Leviste, Jr., of Constellation Energy; Raymond Quiroz, Energy Development Corporation; Marc Vergnet, Vergnet; Luis Miguel Aboitiz, Aboitiz Power Renewables; Bernard Trebol, Philippine Sugar Institute; Walter Brown, of National Grid Corporation of the Philippines; and Froilan Tampinco, National Power Corporation. Moderators are Dr. Viray and Federico Puno, TeaM Energy Corporation and former NPC President.

Session 3 - Carbon Credits - Joyceline Goco, IACEC; Josh Carmody, Asian Development Bank,; Ben Cotton of Earth Capital Partners; and Mila Jude of SEEDlinks Philippines Inc.

Session 4 - Energy Efficiency and Management - Roberto Almazora, Manila Electric Company; Felino Palafox, Jr., Palafox Associates; Amado de Jesus, ASEAN Energy Awards Committee. Cyril del Callar, former NPC President and chairman of Del Callar & Partners, is moderator.

Session 5 - Financing of Energy and Energy-Related Projects - Sumio Ishikawa, Japan Bank for International Cooperation; Brillo Reynes, Development Bank of the Philippines; and Guido Alfredo Delgado, former NPC President and president of GAA Delgado, Inc.

Technical sessions (open to the public) are “The Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation of Aging Hydropower Plants – The Ambuklao and Binga HPPs Case” by Norconsult AS; “Biomass-based Power Generation – Advantages and Experience in the Asian Context” by Areva; “Advantages of Using Cast Resin Transformers” by TMC Transformers; and “Failure Analysis & Risk Management” by TUV SUD PSB Philippines.
